The Dwarvin Detector makes detection of locomotives or rolling stock simple and reliable. Place the sensor where its invisible the light beam will reflect off the object of interest, and install is completed. No frustrating adjustments to be made saving you time. Based on modern silicon technology, the reflective infrared proximity sensor is tolerant of ambient background lighting conditions, such as completely dark layout room or under fully lighted layout room, and with no false triggering. Combined with cross-track installation, this low-profile sensor solves many challenges that plague other optical manufactured detector products.

Once a train or rolling stock passes in front of the sensor, it reflects the infrared light onto an integrated sensor. This is a complete detector system and it does not require separate transmitters and or detectors to be mounted at peculiar angles to function. The Detectors stay active as long as they detect an object.

Electrical Connections:

These units are to be used with the Lamplighter® DFL (Dedicated Flasher).  The detector comes with a QWIIC connector attached to 8ft of wire. Just plug the output from the unit (the white wire) into the trigger port on the Lamplighter DFL unit, and the power (red and black) into the power output on the DFL unit.

Special Note:

Multiple detectors can be added to the Lamplighter DFL unit.

Install / Placement:

Place up to 1" away from the object being detected for reliable pick-up.

The IR Detector is fully compatible with all model train gauges. It is elegant, simple to mount, and operate. To ensure reliability of your install mount the detector within 1" from the edge of the rail, and Use a 1/4" drill bit to drill a hole.

The detector comes with "electrical Box" and mounts that are designed to hide the detector. There are two different sizes of electrical boxes that arrive with each package. The smaller (5/8" high) is for N scale layouts. The larger (1" high) aligns with HO bodies of Locomotives / Rolling Stock and or with O scale aligns with 2-rail trucks.

Multiple Tracks:

 In N scale, it is possible that a single detector will cover 2 tracks at once. HO scale you will need to add extra detectors for the second track. Main factors affecting this, 1) the distance from the nearest track, 2) the spacing of the tracks from each other, and 3) how reflective the trains are. Matte black coal cars are far less reflective to the deector.
